The Kashmir Files Movie Review

Thirty-one years ago, in 1990, roving Islamic gangs ethnically removed half a million Kashmiri Hindus from the Kashmiri Valley. Following it, heinous murders and rapes occurred. Even a Srinagar High Court judge was shot in broad daylight.

While the then-chief minister of Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah, entirely abdicated his duties, or should one say cooperated with the gangs, 500,000 Kashmiri Hindus had no choice but to flee or stay and perish. Many died in dismal camps, and most moved on with pitifully limited support from the Indian government, carrying on their lives and hoping to one day return to their homes — the lands where their ancestors survived six previous genocides.

Even after 31 years and the repeal of laws that substantially contributed to the genocide, India has no answer to bring them back because it lacks the fortitude to confront the reality of Islamist fundamentalism and the courage to dismantle terror infrastructure.

Worse, even after 31 years, their tale is rarely discussed freely in India, whereas any tiny occurrence, particularly one that portrays Hindus negatively, becomes a high-decibel campaign. Vivek Agnihotri and Pallavi Joshi, filmmakers, have vowed to change that.

They have done something that India has not done in 31 years: they have shown the true face of the Kashmiri Hindu genocide in their film, The Kashmir Files, which is currently being played in numerous places across the United States.

The breadth and depth of the film’s depiction of the Kashmiri Hindu genocide, while remaining sensitive to the audience’s ability to bear it, is an achievement in and of itself. This film would not have been possible without extensive painstaking research, but that is only one part of the story;

how to take that and weave it into a story that tells the truth, nothing but the complete truth in all its aspects, takes skill, and one must applaud Vivek and his team on their outstanding work. The film deeply affects you, strikes a raw nerve, and awakens you from your deep slumber.

The film is about Kashmiri Hindus, but it is also about all persecuted societies around the world, whether it is Jews by Christian Germany, Christians in Turkey by the Islamic Ottoman empire, or native religions of America and Africa by the Christian West, and the systematic destruction of Muslims and their countries by the Western deep state today.

More importantly, it is the story of Hindu India, one of the world’s most brutalized societies by fundamentalist Abrahamic religions, where an estimated 80 million people died; it is the story of how a small community held on to its culture in the face of enormous adversity;

it is the story of the fountainhead of the most profound Hindu thought, which originated in Kashmir and remains a beacon to all humanity; and it is the story of spineless Indian governments. It is the narrative of what occurs when a society is unwilling to stand unified and confront the brutal savages, instead of attempting to soothe and deal with those who have only your annihilation in mind.

It is the story of Hindu rulers who have never learned a lesson, from Prithviraj Chauhan, who released Mohammed Ghori and was later assassinated at the first opportunity, to the current BJP leadership, such as Ram Madhav, who boasted during a recent The Kashmir files movie cast

New Jersey program that the Centre could attract millions of visitors to Kashmir while only a few Hindus could live without fear. It tells the story of our political leaders striving for minority accommodation and pandering.

It is also the story of our soldiers being sacrificed in the course of eradicating terrorists, but a lack of courage (from the administration, judiciary, and others) in addressing the core cause of terrorism. It is a never-ending narrative of death and destruction in the most advanced society, which is on the verge of extinction.

Either it prepares to survive or it prepares to die in the not-too-distant future. The Kashmir Files is a film that should be seen by everyone. It’s a reminder of the risks that the Indian civilisation is experiencing, and how it’s past time for us to act more resolutely and forcefully to deal with the threats that it is — and has been — facing. The Kashmir Files News

The two words that best define the cinematic experience of Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files are “disturbing” and “uncomfortable.” The director opens a dark chapter in Kashmir’s history: the evacuation of lakhs of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990, at the height of the state’s terrorism.

While this is not the first film about the Exodus, the story is told in such a way that you agree, disagree, hate, connect, and become upset with it at various points; to be fair, it keeps your attention throughout. Krishna Pandit (Darshan Kumar), a “JNU student,” believes his parents were murdered in an accident, as told by his grandfather, Pushkar Nath (Anupam Kher).

The truth, though, is sadder. He is caught between two different tales of the 1990 Kashmiri Pandit migration. One side is represented by Pallavi Joshi, a pro-Azaadi JNU lecturer who is gathering a lot of sympathy on campus for her “Kashmir cause.”

On the other hand, is Nath, who has been fighting for justice for 30 years, which the professor argues is a fake. Krishna returns to Kashmir after Pushkar Nath’s death to fulfil his last wishes and encounters four of Nath’s acquaintances—a journalist, a doctor, a former police officer, and a retired civil official.

They are astounded to learn that Krishna was unaware of the exact circumstances surrounding his father’s death. Krishna then embarks on a trip to seek the truth in The Kashmir Files. Krishna’s father is assassinated by a local terrorist while hiding in a jar of rice, in one of many harrowing moments.

His mother feels compelled to consume the blood-soaked rice from the same jar. It’s also a plot partially based on B.K. Ganjoo, an engineer who was assassinated in the valley in 1990, according to numerous media reports.

Mingling facts with fiction

However, what many refer to as a “well-researched” tale begins to skew the reality from here on out. Vivek Agnihotri dubbed the video “the Truth of Kashmir,” and it accurately depicts the infamous Nadimarg massacre of 2003, in which 24 Kashmiri Pandits were allegedly killed.

However, he overlooks the fact that Mrs. Ganjoo was also murdered at the same time. The assassination of four Indian Air Force officers by JKLF (Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front) members, as well as the escape on January 19, 1990, are highlighted.

In the film, one terrorist is involved, who is motivated by the JKLF’s Yasin Malik and Farooq Ahmed Dar (also known as Bitta Karate). Bitta, played by Chinmay Mandlekar, confessed to killing 20 Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s.

However, Agnihotri’s’ truth reveals his involvement in the Nadimarg massacre, which featured another terrorist named Zia Mustafa from a completely different terrorist organization.

‘Death blow’ to credibility

There is no gentler way to put it: The Kashmir Files are attempting to tarnish JNU by portraying it as an anti-national, terror-friendly institution. Vivek Agnihotri manages to bring up Article 370 in order to link it to the exodus.

The film almost accuses it of being one of the causes of the migration of Kashmiri Pandits. The Kashmir Files also blame Farooq Abdullah and the Rajiv Gandhi-led government in Delhi. V.P. Singh was prime minister at the time of the evacuation, but guilt is being placed squarely on Home Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

Similarly, it depicts terrorists as attempting to encourage Krishna to oppose Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Some occurrences, like stating that only Kashmiri Hindus were killed in 1990, are insensitively portrayed despite the fact that individuals across religions suffered during the zenith of terrorism in the state.

At one point, the film virtually advances the cause of Islamophobia. In the final scene depicting the Nadimarg Massacre, in which Krishna’s mother and younger brother are slaughtered, I heard a voice in the audience say, “Ye poori qaum hee aisi hai” (This entire race is the same).

While The Kashmir Files reveals the truth and the much-needed tale of Kashmiri Pandits, it undermines their credibility by blending facts, defaming JNU, blaming selective leaders, and disregarding the remainder of the era of turmoil in Kashmir in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

It had the potential to be a spectacular monument to the cause, but Agnihotri’s personal ideas killed the picture and its legitimacy.
