RRR Movie Review
The last time filmmaker SS Rajamouli dazzled audiences was with the 2017 blockbuster Baahubali: The Conclusion. It took him five years to create his next feature, RRR (also dubbed in Hindi), shoot it and bring it to the big screen. Pulling off a multi-starrer starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan may appear to be a feat in and of itself. Even when it comes to the story, Rajamouli manages to deliver.
RRR is based on a straightforward principle. There’s ‘fire,’ an enraged young police officer Ramaraju (Ram Charan) who is both respected and despised by the British. He has done their bidding for years, he is the one they use to capture anyone, and yet he is the one who is never given enough respect because of the colour of his skin.
Then there’s ‘water,’ pure, simple, innocent Bheem (Jr NTR), who has brute strength but only uses it when it’s necessary. He’s a Gond tribal who has gone to the city to save Malli, a young girl who was kidnapped by Lady Scott (Alison Doody) to be the singing doll ‘on (her) mantelpiece.’ But that’s only the beginning of the story.
Rajamouli’s new calling cards appear to be the creation of a new planet. Because, while being based on two historical rebels, RRR has a wholly fictional tale. In the 1920s Delhi becomes his new canvas. Bheem may have fought against the Nizams, so much so that one of them feels compelled to warn the British that he is not to be underestimated.
However, he also seeks refuge with Muslims in Delhi. Ramaraju may appear to be a well-trained soldier who will blindly follow orders, but he also appears to have a past that only his uncle (Samuthirakani) is aware of. Scott (Ray Stevenson) may believe that ‘brown crap’ deserves to be shot, but Jennifer (Olivia Morris) is more sympathetic.
This is not the liberation movement in which you turn the other cheek; rather, it is the one in which you use your hands as weapons. The first half of RRR runs like a well-oiled machine. There’s an emotional core in Malli, a song and dance with Naatu Naatu (it’ll make you grin), a friendship explored through Dosti, and a few laughs anytime Bheem tries to befriend Jennifer.
Cinematic liberties are used, but they don’t seem as noticeable as in the film’s final half, where it falters a little. Some sequences seem to drag because we already know something that a key character does not. The way Ramaraju’s fiancée Sita (Alia Bhatt) is integrated into the storyline, as well as Ram Charan’s change into a different look, appear forced in a story that was otherwise smooth sailing.
After the ease with which Bheem is established despite the fact that little is shown, the manner Ramaraju’s plot evolves is strained. The climax could have been better. The film, on the other hand, manages to surprise you. Rajamouli also expertly uses tropes established in the first half of the film in the second half.
Nonetheless, Rajamouli manages to pull off something that many people have been hoping for: a commercial, action drama that will keep you immensely delighted. The film’s length is also not a detriment, thanks to a tight narrative. The visual effects in certain scenes could have been better. Jr NTR delivers the best performance of his career.
He’s endearing as Bheem, especially in the emotional scenes, and his eagerness to find Malli, as well as his love for Ramaraju, shine through. Ram Charan also performs admirably, putting soul into his character’s metamorphosis.
Tarak and Charan’s roles necessitate chemistry, which they have. Alia Bhatt, Olivia Morris, Samuthirakani, Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran, and others all do an excellent job. Olivia, in particular, has a way of winning your heart. Alison and Ray are naturals in their roles. Keeravani’s OST for the film may not be to everyone’s taste, but he does a good job with the BGM.
Senthil’s camerawork is also excellent. RRR is far from flawless because, after seeing how Rajamouli pulls off certain situations, you question if he could’ve done a greater job in others. But if you’re looking for a terrific action-packed drama, check out this one this weekend. Especially if you like the primary couple.

RRR is a 2022 Telugu-language epic historical action drama film directed by S. S. Rajamouli, who also co-wrote the script with K. V. Vijayendra Prasad. It is produced by DVV Entertainments’ D. V. V. Danayya. N. T. Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan star in the film, along with Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt in cameo roles, and Samuthirakani, Alison Doody, Ray Stevenson, Olivia Morris, and Shriya Saran in supporting roles.
It tells the narrative of two Indian rebels, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Rama Rao), who battled against the British Raj and the Nizam of Hyderabad, respectively. Rajamouli stumbled across stories of things that occurred in the lives of Rama Raju and Bheem and connected the dots.
Rajamouli was motivated to make the film by the concept of how they could have been pals during their formative years. Set in 1920, the plot delves into an undocumented period in their lives when both revolutionaries chose to go into exile before fighting for their nation.
The film was formally announced in March 2018, with principal photography beginning in November 2018 in Hyderabad. The film was shot primarily in India, with a few scenes in Ukraine and Bulgaria. M. M. Keeravani composed the music and background score for the film, which was shot by K. K. Senthil Kumar and edited by A. Sreekar Prasad.
Sabu Cyril served as the film’s production designer, and V. Srinivas Mohan oversaw the visual effects. RRR, which was made on a budget of 550 crore (US$72 million), was originally intended for cinema release on July 30, 2020, but that date has been pushed back several times due to production delays and the COVID-19 epidemic. Finally, on March 25, 2022, the picture was released theatrically.
RRR Movie Story
In 1920, British General Scott and his wife pay a visit to Adilabad district and forcibly remove Malli, a Gond tribal girl, to work as their maidservant in Delhi. Komaram Bheem and his men come to Delhi to rescue the girl. To facilitate their quest, they capture a wild tiger in the woodlands.
Nizam of Hyderabad alerts Scott’s office about the situation. Alluri Sita Rama Raju is a police officer who excels at serving the Empire. When Lady Scott promises a promotion to the officer who captures the Gond tribe’s chief alive, Ram steps forward. He attends a conference of independent radicals and proposes that Scott be assassinated.
Bheem’s helper Lachhu requests that Ram meets with Bheem because their interests appear to be aligned. Lachhu, on the other hand, escapes when he realizes Ram is a cop. Lachhu informs Bheem about this, who requests that he remain hidden. Ram and Bheem meet by chance and band together to save a boy. Bheem presents himself as Anwar, a Muslim, while Ram conceals his status as an officer.
They become the best of friends. When they are attempting to sneak into the palace, Bheem comes across Scott’s niece Jennifer. Ram assists Bheem in approaching her. Jennifer invites Bheem to a party, to which the two go. Jennifer invites Bheem to the castle after being impressed by his dance.
Bheem approaches Malli quietly, assuring her rescue. Ram kidnaps Lachhu in order to find out where their boss is. Lachhu seizes an ordinary krait and throws it at Ram, biting him. Lacchu warns Ram that it can kill him in an hour if he does not have anti-venom, which is exclusively known to the Gonds. Ram eventually finds his way to Bheem, who saves him.
By telling Ram about their purpose, Bheem confesses to Ram. Bheem and his warriors storm the palace with a vehicle loaded with wild animals. Bheem lets them loose on the British soldiers. Ram, on the other hand, obstructs him as a police officer. Bheem begs Ram not to arrest him, but Ram refuses. Bheem, enraged, battles Ram and then climbs the palace walls.
Ram comes to a halt as General Scott holds Malli at gunpoint. Bheem surrenders because he has no other choice. Bheem is sentenced to death by public crucifixion. Scott offers compassion if he kneels, but despite Ram’s heaving lashing, Bheem refuses. He sings a song that inspires the public to resist. The officers take Bheem away.
Ram is reminded of his father, Venkat Ramaraju, who was also a British rebel. When the British soldiers attack their village, Venkat sacrifices himself to blow up the troops. Venkat accepts Ram’s offer to supply a weapon to every rebel who takes part in the revolt. Venkat’s friend Venkateswarulu informs Ram that his promise will be fulfilled because he has been assigned to oversee a shipment of weaponry.
Ram, on the other hand, prioritizes saving Bheem and the girl. As part of his plot, he requests that Scott execute Bheem on the outskirts. Scott, on the other hand, realizes the ruse and injures him. Bheem manages to release himself and fights the guards off. To save Malli, Ram shoots a Britisher over the head. Bheem, mistaking this for an attack, beats up Ram and flees with Malli.
Bheem and his soldiers take refuge in Hathras, but British officers arrive. Sita realizes they are in danger and drives the cops away by lying to them that the area is afflicted with smallpox. Sita shows herself to be Ram’s cousin and love interest. She goes on to say that Ram was put to death because he defied the British in order to save his best friend.
Bheem apologizes for his actions and promises Sita that he will rescue Ram. Bheem gets inside the Barracks with the help of Jennifer’s blueprint. He frees Ram from the prison, carrying him on his back because he is unable to walk. They battle the guards together and escape. Bheem cares for Ram, but the soldiers attack them in the woods.
Ram retaliates by taking a bow and arrows from Lord Rama’s temple. Bheem joins him and throws a javelin. They fight off the soldiers and make their way to the palace. They detonate a motorcycle in a room full of TNT, causing the building to explode. Bheem goes out and gets firearms and ammunition for Ram.
Lady Scott is killed in the midst of the mayhem, and Scott is killed by Ram and Bheem. They re-join Sita, Jennifer, and others. Bheem, at Ram’s request, requests that he repay the favour by educating him. Ram goes to his village and delivers the promised weapons, while Bheem returns to his hamlet, reuniting Malli with her mother.
